THEN
    July 5, 1967 - Wednesday
    (continued from last entry)
    "Time" summed up the hippie
    code in this way...
1 - "Do your own thing,
wherever you are and whenever you want."
    This, in general, means to
reject "authority" and be yourself. They're not talking about laws. I guess
the better way to say it is to reject "conformity".
    I couldn't believe in that
more.  I have always wanted to act myself without worrying what other
people think or do.  The hippy can act the way he wishes without being
effected by other people's thoughts.  He doesn't care what other people
think, just that he does what he likes. Don't confuse this with the laws.
I realize that laws are important and by no means should we reject them.
The type of law I object to is "Social" law.  I believe we should act
ourselves and I believe that is the most important part of the hippie
    philosophy.
2 - Drop out. Leave society
as you have known it. Leave it utterly.
From my past notes you have a
good idea about my thoughts on society and how they vary. In general I don't
care for my present society.  I believe there is a better one to be
found and communes like "Morning Star" are a great improvement.
3 - Blow the mind of every
straight person you can reach. Turn them on , if not to drugs, then to
    beauty, love, honesty and fun.
You know my views on drugs (see
June 17) so I needn't get into that.  This last part of the
philosophy in a way, sums up the whole idea of the hippie.  He believes
the more important things in life are love, honesty and fun.  Not
    necessarily drugs.
I'll have to wait till later
to collect my thoughts on the whole subject.  Besides it's 11 o'clock
and I have to go to work tomorrow at 6.
